The Status of Seattle's Bike Program

The city of Seattle has decided to end its well-known bicycle sharing program. The program, touted by its advocates as a cheap and convenient option for public transit, is technically over, but its future remains uncertain as authorities take the time to evaluate its results and decide its fate. However, the bicycles themselves will be allowed to remain until the city decides on a course of action. The three companies that rent bicycles in Seattle have been operating on a six-month permit which ends this month. The short duration is due to the fact that this was always meant to be a pilot program. The Seattle Department of Transportation made it very clear that the program is not necessarily dead. They described the six-month pilot period as an opportunity to collect data. Likewise, they described the end of the program as being merely the end of the data collection process.…

Voices To Listen To

Recently the city of Seattle approved a “head tax” on large businesses, allowing the city to tax per person per working hour. The affected are businesses generating at least $20 million in revenue. This means many of the large companies thriving in the Seattle market are now pausing to reconsider their future. A prime example of this is Amazon’s pause on construction of their new office tower. With the tax being passed, there are many kinds of opinions being shared. There are open letters from CEOs, opinions of the public, and of course opinions of the government bodies in charge of these laws. Although there has been many voices echoing their disdain for this new tax, there have also been many voices expressing their support of this taxation. In a democratic society, it is these voices that are to be dictating the laws and rules of said society. The question…

Color Your Brand

When one looks at grouping of colors and they are perfectly coordinated, intune with the surroundings, and emit a deeper feeling, one understands that they have found something incredible and unique. Color (or the absence of color) is vital in your branding and what you put forth about yourself. The colors you have chosen to incorporate into your brand represent your product, your style, the clientele you attract, and an overall synopsis of the brand. This happens before you even have a chance to say a word. Are you looking to emit power and luxury with your brand or are you looking to emit carefree simplicity? Consider what your product or service is. Consider what your audience is seeking when interacting with your product or service. Keep that in mind when choosing a color palette. If, for example, your brand is in the business of luxury housing, you will not…

Speaking With Silence

Building a business or career into a success story takes time and work. Because of this, learning how to create a good platform for public opinion is essential to any success for a person, business or company. As almost all successful individuals, companies and businesses know, communication is key in building strong relationships. When thinking of communication, most minds jump to words spoken. We’re here to suggest that a powerful tool of communication is silence. Now we don’t mean giving someone the “silent treatment”, but rather listening. A key component of communication is listening and truly hearing what people have to say. In today’s fast paced world, brimming with 140 characters or less, miscommunications occur daily. Is it because people don’t say enough? On the contrary, everyone is eager to jump in with their words without taking the time to hear what is being said. What is being said by…

HQ2 & Amazon Go

Amazon has become the leader in the online retail industry over the last decade. In fact, the industry has suffered major shifts and losses in quite a few areas. However, the mega online retailer has remained at the center of the drive to make all retailers develop an online presence. Today, the company’s footprint has become a global giant for retail products shifting the focus in the industry to expand an internet footprint for almost every major retailer in the industry.  Because of their massive consumer reach, companies that have failed to give their consumers an online portal have often been the ones that have shuttered their doors in an increasing demand for people who wish to shop online. Seattle the EZ Choice for the NHL

Seattle had a Hockey team. Did you know that the first American team to ever win the Stanley Cup was based right here in Seattle? The year was 1917, and the Seattle Metropolitans defeated the defending champion Montreal Canadiens (Canadians in English). A time traveler from back then might be more than a little disappointed to learn that the Canadiens managed to thrive, yet the Metropolitans went the way of the dinosaurs. The Metropolitans were a strong team with an impressive record and a reputation for winning. The team made it to the Stanley Cup three times. Their combined record was 112-96-2. At home, they were 73-30. We have what it takes. If the Metropolitans had managed to survive, they would be like a PR firm for the city. I am sure they could sell out your average NHL arena today. They were that good. According to Nielsen Scarborough, the…
